St. Petersburg, Russia –
African nations are shifting focus from a colonial legacy to a mindset of economic growth and business development, said John Aggrey, CEO of the Ghana Russia Centre for Commerce and Relations, during the SPIEF 2025 forum.
Speaking to Sputnik Africa, Aggrey highlighted the increasing participation of Africans at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), stating that many delegates now see Russia’s reality firsthand, which contrasts sharply with narratives in Western media.
The Ghana Russia Centre aims to facilitate Russian investment in Ghana by improving access to local regulations and targeting key industries such as oil and gas, mining, fintech, and cybersecurity. Aggrey added that Russian IT solutions could play a critical role in tackling African security challenges.
“Africa entering free trade is a major plus for the African continent,” he noted, referencing the impact of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
He praised BRICS-led de-dollarization and the growing use of national currencies in Russia-Africa trade, suggesting that cooperation between BRICS and AfCFTA could deliver substantial economic benefits.
Aggrey also underscored shared values between Africans and Russians, including sovereignty, family, and cultural identity. He emphasized the importance of preserving African heritage and expressed confidence in partnerships with Russia and other Africa-friendly nations.
